**Quick answer:** Maha Shivratri 2027 falls on **Saturday, 6 March**, with Nishita
Kaal puja time 12:09 AM–12:58 AM (into 7 March) and four Ratri Prahar windows through
the night. Around Chandigarh, Saketri Shiva Temple — near Mata Mansa Devi Temple,
Panchkula — draws a genuinely large Shivratri crowd distinct from its usual footfall.

Maha Shivratri, the “Great Night of Shiva,” is observed with a day-long fast and
night-long worship rather than a public procession or mela — it’s a personal and
temple-centred festival, not one with a citywide public event to point to in Chandigarh.
The temples in and around the tricity that see real, elevated Shivratri crowds are
worth knowing if you want to observe it properly.

## Maha Shivratri 2027 Date & Muhurat

Maha Shivratri falls on **Saturday, 6 March 2027**. Chaturdashi Tithi begins at
12:03 PM on 6 March and ends at 1:46 PM on 7 March. The most significant puja window

Shiva is believed to have appeared as the Linga. For those observing all four Ratri

## Where Shivratri Is Observed Around Chandigarh

**Saketri Shiva Temple**, near Mata Mansa Devi Temple in Panchkula district, is
the tricity’s most notable Shivratri destination — devotees specifically travel
here for the occasion, not just as a regular temple visit, making it genuinely distinct
from an average day. Beyond Saketri, most of Chandigarh’s own Shiva temples hold
extended puja hours and night-long worship, with devotees observing the fast and
visiting in the evening or through the night for the Nishita Kaal puja window.

## How the Fast & Puja Work

 * **The fast** — a full-day fast, often nirjala (without water), broken the next
morning within the Chaturdashi Tithi window.
 * **Night-long worship** — Shiva Puja can be performed once or across all four
Ratri Prahars for those observing the full ritual.
 * **Nishita Kaal** — the single most significant puja moment of the night, timed
to when Shiva is believed to have manifested as the Linga.
 * **Parana (breaking the fast)** — done the following morning, within the Chaturdashi
   Tithi’s remaining window.

### Which temple near Chandigarh is best for Shivratri?

Saketri Shiva Temple, near Mata Mansa Devi Temple in Panchkula, draws a genuinely
large, dedicated Shivratri crowd distinct from an ordinary day.

### What is Nishita Kaal on Maha Shivratri?

The most significant puja window of the night, traditionally when Lord Shiva is

Chandigarh.

Maha Shivratri around Chandigarh is a temple-and-fast festival rather than a public

it somewhere with real crowds, otherwise it’s a night best spent at whichever Shiva
temple is closest to you.
