**Quick answer:** **Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple**, Panchkula, is one of the most
renowned Shakti temples in North India and the tricity’s biggest Navratri draw,
run by the **Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board**. The temple holds **two Navratra
melas a year** — Chaitra (spring; 2026: 19–27 March) and Sharad (autumn; 2026: 11–
20 October, aligned with the citywide Navratri calendar) — drawing lakhs of devotees,
with waits of several hours common at peak times.

Every 2026 festival date, with its weekday and whether it is a holiday in Chandigarh,
is in our [Chandigarh festival calendar](https://chdlife.com/chandigarh-festival-calendar/).

Our main [Navratri in Chandigarh guide](https://chdlife.com/best-places-to-visit-for-navratri-in-chandigarh/)
lists Mansa Devi as the top pick among the tricity’s Navratri temples — this page
goes deeper into what actually happens at the temple itself during the nine nights,
so you know what to expect before you go.

## About the Temple

Shri Mata Mansa Devi Temple sits in village Bilaspur, near Mani Majra, in Panchkula,
Haryana — at the foot of the Shivalik hills; the Shrine Board lists Chandigarh Railway
Station 8.1 km away and the Chandigarh bus stand 11 km away. The complex spans roughly
100 acres and is managed by the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board, which also runs
two other temples in the same network: **[Shri Kali Mata Mandir, Kalka](https://chdlife.com/kali-mata-mandir-kalka-panchkula/)**,
and **Shri [Chandi Mata Mandir](https://chdlife.com/chandi-mata-mandir-panchkula/),
Chandimandir** — all three hold their Navratra melas simultaneously.

## History and what to see

The Shrine Board tells a story about how the temple began: a cow came to the hilltop
every day and offered milk at three adjoining stones, local people then found three
holy stones and began to worship them, and the stones were found to be the forehead
of Shri Sati. The Board says the place was first known as the temple of Mata Sati.
The Board itself calls this a story, so we present it as tradition, not as checked
history.

According to the Board, the present main temple was built by Maharaja Gopal Singh
of Manimajra between 1811 and 1815, and the Patiala temple, about 200 m away, was
built by Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala in 1840. Another passage on the same Board
page names the Manimajra ruler as “King Gopaldas”, so the builder’s name is not
consistent even on the Board’s own page; we use Maharaja Gopal Singh, which also
matches Wikipedia’s article on Mani Majra.

 * **Main temple:** the Board describes 38 panels of wall paintings, floral designs
on the walls and ceiling, Mughal features in the architecture and a covered parikrama.
 * **Patiala temple:** the Board describes a nagara-style curvilinear spire, a pancharatha
plan, an open parikrama and a silver-plated shrine with a marble bust and a pindi.
 * **Sacred-thread tree:** the Board calls the tree where devotees tie sacred threads
the main attraction of the complex.

## Two Navratra Melas a Year

Unlike temples that mark only the autumn Navratri, Mansa Devi holds a full nine-
night mela **twice a year**:

| Mela | 2026 Dates |
| Chaitra Navratra Mela (spring) | 19–27 March 2026 |
| Sharad Navratra Mela (autumn) | 11–20 October 2026 |

The autumn Sharad mela is the bigger of the two, and in 2026 it ran from Ghatasthapana
on 11 October to 20 October, in step with Navratri across the rest of the tricity.
In 2026 Maha Navami was Monday, 19 October on the North Indian rule; on the Bengal
rule and in the government list it was Tuesday, 20 October, the same day as Vijayadashami.
The Shrine Board announces exact gate timings, special-darshan arrangements and
any queue changes closer to each mela — it’s worth checking their official channels
in the days just before you go rather than relying on a fixed schedule.

### The 2026 mela: arrangements and crowds

At a review meeting on 18 September 2026, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma,
who is also the Shrine Board’s Chief Administrator, set out the arrangements for
the 11 to 20 October mela, as reported by [The Tribune](https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/mata-mansa-devi-navratra-mela-from-october-11-20).
The Haryana Transport Department and CTU Chandigarh are to run buses at regular
intervals to all three Board temples: Mansa Devi, Kali Mata Mandir in Kalka and
Chandi Mata Mandir. Police checkpoints and queue management are planned, with separate
arrangements for divyang, elderly and pregnant devotees. The power utility has been
told to keep supply running round the clock at the three temples, and the Health
Department to post doctors and paramedics.

How the 2026 mela went: on the opening day, 11 October, around 47,000 devotees visited
Mansa Devi despite rain, [The Tribune](https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/rain-fails-to-dampen-navratri-fervour-47k-devotees-visit-mansa-devi-temple/)
reported. On the eighth day, official estimates quoted by [The India Post](https://theindiapost.com/over-86000-devotees-throng-panchkula-temples-on-eighth-day-of-navratri-donate-rs-35-38-lakh/)
put the crowd at about 60,000 at Mansa Devi, 21,000 at Kali Mata Mandir in Kalka
and 5,000 at Chandi Mata Mandir, with Rs 35.38 lakh offered across the three temples
that day. We found no total for the whole mela from the Shrine Board. The next mela
is the Chaitra Navratra in spring 2027; the Board announces its dates.

## Crowds & Timings

Mansa Devi is consistently the tricity’s single biggest Navratri draw. Wikipedia
says lakhs of devotees pay obeisance during the Navratra melas held in Ashvin and
Chaitra. The Board says devotees come in lakhs and that long lines are why it sells
Sugam Darshan (Rs 100) and Mandap Darshan (Rs 500) tokens; the general queue is
free. Plan for a long queue on peak days:

 * The Shrine Board publishes temple hours of 4 AM to 10 PM in summer and 5 AM to
9 PM in winter. Its site does not say which schedule applies during the October
mela, so ring the Board office on 0172-2920988 before a very early or late visit.
 * Weekday mornings and late evenings tend to be less crowded than weekend evenings.
 * Parking and access arrangements are managed by Panchkula Police and the Shrine
   Board specifically for mela days.

## Getting There

The temple is about 10 km from central Chandigarh, in Panchkula near Mani Majra —
easily reached by road from anywhere in the tricity. During Navratra melas, expect
traffic and parking restrictions on the approach roads; allow extra time if you’re
driving in during evening hours.
