**Quick answer:** Gurdwara Nada Sahib stands on the bank of the Ghaggar at Nada
Sahib in **Panchkula**, where Guru Gobind Singh halted in **1688** on his way from
Paonta Sahib to Anandpur Sahib. Google Maps lists it as **open 24 hours**, and langar
is served daily. Sundays and the full-moon day are the busiest. According to the
district administration, Chandigarh Railway Station is about 8 km away and the Panchkula
bus stand about 6 km.

The shrine stands in the Shivalik foothills of Panchkula, and the district administration
says its monthly full-moon gathering draws large numbers of people from the northern
region. This guide brings together what the government tourism pages, Wikipedia,
the shrine’s own history board and Google Maps say about it.

## Why the Guru stopped here

The shrine’s own history board, written in Punjabi, English and Hindi, tells the
story like this. After the victory at Bhangani, Guru Gobind Singh went to Paonta
Sahib. On the way back to Anandpur Sahib he passed through Nahan, Toka Sahib and
Rani ka Raipur, reached Manak Tabra, and then camped by the Ghaggar on a high mound.
The board dates the stay to Samvat 1746; [Haryana Tourism](https://haryanatourism.gov.in/places_of_interest/nada-sahib/)
and Wikipedia give 1688.

The land was wild forest then. Nadu Shah Lubana, from the neighbouring village,
served the Guru and his followers with food and milk. According to the board, the
Guru asked him what he did for a living, and Nadu Shah answered that he was a poor
farmer and a humble follower. The Guru blessed him and said the place would be known
by his name. That is how Nada Sahib got its name.

One caution on dates. The Battle of Bhangani, which led to the journey, is given
as 18 September 1686 in Wikipedia’s Nada Sahib article, but the separate Battle
of Bhangani article says the year is 1686 or 1688. We have not picked one, and the
halt at Nada Sahib is the part that the government page and the shrine board describe.

## From a platform to a large complex

The spot stayed obscure for a long time. Then Bhai Motha Singh, who lived in a nearby
village, found it and raised a platform in memory of the Guru’s visit. Haryana Tourism
says the shrine was under the Dharmarth Board of the Patiala and East Punjab States
Union in 1948, and that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee took it over
after the state’s merger with Punjab in 1956. We could not confirm who manages it
today, so we do not name a current body.

The original Manji Sahib has been replaced by a double-storey domed building with
a large rectangular hall beside it. A brick-paved courtyard separates these from
the langar area and the rooms for pilgrims. Wikipedia adds that a 105-foot (32 m)
staff carries the flag. Google Maps describes the place as a large Sikh temple with
an ornate central hall under several white domes.

## Visiting: timings, crowds, langar and parking

 * **Timings:** Google Maps shows the gurdwara as open 24 hours.
 * **Best and busiest days:** the shrine’s board says lakhs of devotees visit on
Sundays and the full-moon day (Poornima), and Haryana Tourism says the monthly
full-moon day draws a large crowd. Google Maps’ popular-times chart also shows
Sundays as the busy day, so expect a crowd then. In 2026 the Kartik full moon,
which is also Guru Nanak’s Gurpurab, falls on Tuesday, 24 November.
 * **Langar:** community meals are served every day.
 * **Parking:** Google Maps lists a separate multilevel car park for the gurdwara.
   Recent visitors say the crowd and car parking are better organised than before;
treat that as a visitor impression, not an official statement.
 * **Staying overnight:** the district portal mentions rooms for pilgrims, and some
visitors mention a room facility. Ask at the gurdwara office for the current
   rules.
 * **Etiquette:** cover your head, take your shoes off before the hall, and keep
tobacco and alcohol away from the complex, as at any gurdwara.

## How to reach Nada Sahib

The Panchkula district administration gives three distances: Chandigarh Railway
Station is about 8 km away, the Panchkula bus stand about 6 km, and Chandigarh International
Airport about 25 km. From Chandigarh you drive into Panchkula; use the Google Maps
pin for the exact route. On busy days, look at the multilevel car park that Google
Maps lists for the gurdwara. If you are combining the trip with Mansa Devi, the
[Shri Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board](https://mansadevi.org.in/religious-places-near-about.php)
lists Nada Sahib as about 8 km from the temple.
