Chandigarh, the modern city designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier, offers
a unique travel experience through its Hop-On-Hop-Off (HOHO) bus service. This initiative
provides tourists and locals alike with a convenient and immersive way to explore
the city’s architectural marvels, lush gardens, and vibrant culture. The bus is
run by CITCO (Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation). This guide
covers its route, stops, rounds and fare.

The Hop-On-Hop-Off concept has gained popularity globally as a flexible and efficient
means of sightseeing. Chandigarh’s version follows suit, offering a curated route
that covers the city’s major landmarks. Passengers have the freedom to disembark
at any stop, explore the surroundings at their own pace, and then hop back on the
bus when ready to proceed. This concept allows for a personalized and comprehensive
exploration of Chandigarh’s diverse offerings.

The Chandigarh HOHO bus route is strategically designed to encompass the city’s
iconic attractions. The bus starts and ends at Hotel Shivalikview, Sector 17. CITCO’s
route goes to Sukhna Lake, the Rock Garden, the High Court (Capitol Complex), the
Rose Garden in Sector 16, Panjab University in Sector 14 and the Government Museum
and Art Gallery in Sector 10, then back via Sukhna Lake.

The Rose Garden (Zakir Hussain Rose Garden) is Asia’s largest rose garden, with
about 1,600 varieties. The High Court stop is in the Capitol Complex, a UNESCO World
Heritage site, which is also home to the Open Hand Monument. Panjab University and
the Government Museum and Art Gallery are the other stops.

One of the significant advantages of the HOHO bus service is the convenience it
brings to tourists. The ticket is for the bus ride. CITCO’s poster lists Rs 75 for
one day and Rs 10 point to point, with bookings on 79736-82169. Check the current
fare with CITCO before you go.

CITCO’s poster (timings listed for July–August 2024) shows 2 rounds on weekdays
and 4 on weekends, with Monday off. With so few rounds, plan your stops around the
timetable and confirm timings with CITCO first.

Beyond the architectural wonders, the HOHO bus provides an opportunity for cultural
immersion. Passengers can interact with locals at each stop, gaining insights into
Chandigarh’s vibrant community. Whether it’s sampling local delicacies at street
markets or engaging in conversations with artisans, the bus journey becomes more
than just a sightseeing tour – it’s an enriching cultural experience.

The Hop-On-Hop-Off bus service in Chandigarh is not merely a mode of transportation;
it’s a gateway to the city’s soul. It mixes history, gardens and modern architecture
in one ride. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking
a leisurely exploration, the HOHO bus is your ticket to unravel the charm of this
well-planned city. Embark on a journey that goes beyond sightseeing – immerse yourself
in the essence of Chandigarh.
