Despite ambitious efforts to promote electric vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable transportation alternative, Chandigarh has slipped to fourth place in the nationwide EV city rankings for March, primarily due to persisting infrastructure deficits.

Key Issues and Rankings Explained:

The latest rankings, which assess the readiness and infrastructure support for electric vehicles in Indian cities, pinpointed significant gaps in Chandigarh’s EV infrastructure. Key issues include an inadequate number of charging stations and logistical challenges in the deployment of EV-friendly facilities across the city. The shortfall in EV infrastructure is a temporary setback. We are working closely with private partners and stakeholders to expedite the development of necessary facilities, including public charging stations throughout Chandigarh,” stated a city official from the Transport Department.
