Flowers are the most essential element of our life. Whether sorrow or happiness, flowers are always present and when we talk about flowers, how can we forget roses? Right?
Roses are relatable for every occasion or purpose. White roses are a symbol of peace. Yellow roses signify friendship. Red roses are icons of love and romance. Purple roses signify charms and love at first sight, Orange roses exemplify passion, and Black roses are for enemies. I know no one gives black roses to their enemies, but still, some people believe black is for enemies.
These are just 3-4 varieties of roses that everyone knows, but there are over 150 species of roses and thousands of hybrids in reality. Roses can be found in nearly every colour and a variety of shapes. Isn’t it amazing?
We usually don’t get the chance to see them all but, you can actually see them. Yes! You heard it right. Chandigarh hosts an annual culture event called the Rose Festival during February and March regarding paying tribute to the glory of the roses and nature altogether at Zakir Hussain Rose Garden.
It is Asia’s most extensive rose garden, named after India’s former president, Zakir Hussain and created in 1967 under the guidance of Dr M.S. Randhawa, Chandigarh’s first chief commissioner,
spread over 30 acres (120,000 m2) of land, with 50,000 rose-bushes of 1600 different varieties.
This festival lasts for three days and is visited by approximately 30,000 people from across the country.
