History of Sukhna Lake
Created in 1958 by damming the seasonal Sukhna Choe stream, the lake was conceived as part of Le Corbusier’s master plan for Chandigarh — a place where nature and the modern city meet. Over six decades later, it remains the green-blue heart of the City Beautiful and the venue for festivals, regattas and the annual Mango Mela.
Things to Do at Sukhna Lake

- Walk or jog the 2.5 km promenade — a favourite with morning walkers and fitness groups.
- Catch the sunrise over the Shivalik hills, the most photographed moment at the lake.
- Cycle along the dedicated track or rent a cycle near the entrance.
- Spot migratory birds at the adjoining Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, especially in winter.
- Grab a bite at the CITCO cafeteria or Chef Lakeview, or enjoy the street food and kulfi near the plaza.
