Quick answer: Panchkula’s Ravan Dahan is held at the Dusshera Ground in Sector 5, also called the Shalimar Ground. On Dussehra, Tuesday, 20 October 2026, a 221-ft Ravan, billed as the tallest in the tricity, was burnt there. That is the name Google Maps uses: Dusshera Ground Panchkula, Sector 5, Panchkula 134109. Dussehra 2027 is on Saturday, 9 October; the committee sets the burning time. Looking for the city’s grounds? See Dussehra in Chandigarh.

Where the ground is and what Maps calls it

Google Maps lists the fairground as Dusshera Ground Panchkula, plus code PV22+8FH, Sector 5, Panchkula, Haryana 134109. Type it with that spelling. Some people search for Shalimar Ground instead: a Google Maps search for that name returns the same Dusshera Ground listing first, then a cricket ground, then Shalimar Mega Mall at Geeta Chowk. Our own video of the event from 2025 is titled with Shalimar Ground, Sector 5, Panchkula.

What is confirmed and what is not

Confirmed: the date, the ground and its sector, and the tithi times in the table. For 2026, The Tribune, UNI and other papers all reported a 221-ft Ravan at the ground, and UNI reported on 20 October that it was set ablaze amid fireworks in front of thousands of people from across the tricity. The organisers did not publish a programme, start time or parking plan that we could find.

We have posted videos from this ground in October 2024 and October 2025 (below), so this is a regular venue and not a new one. If you need the time before you leave home, ask the organising committee. We will add the 2027 programme if the committee publishes one.

How tall is Panchkula’s Ravan?

The Ravan at the Sector 5 ground is usually billed as the tallest in the tricity, and our own videos from the ground in 2024 and 2025 show how it towers over the fairground. There is no official ranking, though. The committee decides the height each year, so a figure from one year tells you little about the next.

These are figures reported in the press, not heights we have confirmed. The Tribune reported on 2 October 2025 that the Ravan burnt that year was 180 ft tall (the headline says 181 ft), with Meghnad and Kumbhkaran at 100 ft each, and called it the tallest in the tricity. The report names the organisers as the Mata Mansa Devi Charitable Trust and the Adarsh Ramlila Committee, says a team of artisans from Uttar Pradesh led by Mohammad Usman built the effigies, and quotes the organisers planning an even taller 250-ft effigy for 2026. The report places the ground in Sector 2; Google Maps and our own videos put it in Sector 5.

The 250-ft plan did not happen: the 2026 Ravan was 221 ft, as The Tribune and UNI reported and as our own video from the ground shows. For scale, Wikipedia notes that Tajendar Singh Chouhan of Barara, in Ambala district, is in the Limca Book of Records for the world’s tallest Ravana effigy, which reached 210 ft in 2016.

Ravan Dahan and the Ramlila

Dussehra marks Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana and, in some traditions, Durga’s victory over Mahishasura. Wikipedia notes that across northern India the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnath are burnt on bonfires in the evening, at the close of the Ramlila season. The Vijay Muhurat above, 2:00 PM to 2:46 PM, is the auspicious window on the afternoon of Dussehra; the burning itself is an evening event and its time is set by the committee. We have posted a Ram Leela video from Sector 5, Panchkula (October 2024) and a women’s Ram Leela video from Zirakpur (September 2024).

Getting there and traffic

Panchkula Traffic Police asks people with a traffic problem or complaint to call 0172-2561900, and it runs a Facebook page at facebook.com/cppanchkula. If you are driving in from Chandigarh, the Chandigarh Traffic Police helpline is 1073. Ask about diversions before you leave; we found no Panchkula traffic plan published online for 2026.
