The Best Parks in Chandigarh

Zakir Hussain Rose Garden (Sector 16)

This is the big one — one of Asia’s largest rose gardens, spread over 30 acres with more than 1,600 varieties of roses. It’s gorgeous year-round, but if you can, time your visit with the annual Rose Festival in February–March, when the whole place bursts into colour. Entry is free, so it’s perfect for a lazy morning walk or a picnic.

Rock Garden (Sector 1)

Honestly, the Rock Garden is less a park and more a work of art. Nek Chand built this 40-acre wonderland entirely from recycled waste — broken bangles, tiles, pottery — and the result is magical. Wander the maze-like paths, spot the quirky sculptures, and catch the open-air theatre and waterfalls. Adults pay ₹30, kids ₹10, and it’s an easy favourite with families and photographers.

Sukhna Lake (Sector 1)

The shady promenade around Sukhna Lake is the city’s favourite spot for a sunrise walk or an evening stroll. Rent a paddle boat, soak in the view of the Shivalik hills, and grab some street food or a coffee by the water. It’s free to enter (boating costs extra) and open from 5 AM to 9 PM.

Leisure Valley (Sectors 1–53)

Often called the “lungs of Chandigarh,” Leisure Valley is a chain of connected gardens running over 8 km through the city. It’s brilliant for morning joggers, yoga groups and families — peaceful, green, and completely free.

Botanical Garden (Sarangpur)

A quieter pick for plant lovers, the Botanical Garden in Sarangpur has 75+ kinds of trees, aquatic plants and rare herbs. It’s a lovely weekend escape for nature photography or just some calm away from the traffic.

More Green Spaces Worth a Visit

If you’ve ticked off the big names, Chandigarh still has plenty more to offer. The Terraced Garden in Sector 33 is lovely in the evenings (and hosts the Chrysanthemum Show in winter), the serene Japanese Garden in Sector 31 is all koi ponds and pagodas, and the Cactus Garden in Panchkula is one of the largest of its kind in Asia.
