The mango story
The SAS Nagar (Mohali) district website links Amb Sahib to the Seventh Guru, Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji. Its account begins at Amritsar, where Bhai Kuram of village Lambia went to pay homage to Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and mangoes from Kabul were presented to the Guru. Guru Arjan Dev Ji told Bhai Kuram they would have mangoes in the Guru’s seventh life span.
Guru Har Rai came from Kurukshetra in mid-December and asked Bhai Kuram for mangoes. Bhai Kuram said it was not the season — but when he looked up, the tree above the Guru was full of fruit. Wikipedia describes Bhai Kuram as a Labana trader and orchard owner.
A correction: this is not the Guru Teg Bahadur or Ajit Singh story
A claim circulates that this shrine is dedicated to the 9th Guru, Shri Guru Teg Bahadur, and marks where Guru Gobind Singh received news of the birth of his son, Sahibzada Ajit Singh.
